The Whole

The Whole was created as my Capstone project at Neumont University. It was a 10-week experiment with group AI. While it's not a game in the strictest sense, there are several aspects of the project that can be used in game development.

All of the workers have a common goal: Build a spaceship and explore the stars.

However, workers all have their own unique specializations and jobs. Robots are able to remove obstacles from the map, scientists can create tools to aid the robots, and explorers reveal more of the map and bring treasure home.

Major Roles

Group AI

The workers all follow through their own decision tree in order to determine the action that best fits the situation they are in.

To make it a group AI simulation, the workers interact with the others through various means, such as launching colored flares, or forming pods to more easily communicate.

The workers always take into account whether or not their current goal requires others to accomplish.

Character and Environment Modeling

All of the models in the game, including the workers, terrain tiles, and buildings were created by me. With exception of the skybox in the rocket launching scene, all textures were created by me.
